Xu Datong, a Chinese settler, had made an extraordinary achievement in the field of computer game plan. At some point, Datongââ¬â¢s little child, Denis had a stomachache. The granddad, who just came to join the family, utilized Guasha treatment to fix Denisââ¬â¢ stomachache. The treatment made Dennisââ¬â¢ back beat up, which later turned into the proof of youngster misuse. Datong took all the duties regarding his father.Although he attempted to clarify that Guasha is a customary Chinese treatment yet neglected to convince the adjudicator. He had to isolate from his significant other and child. Be that as it may, the story had a glad consummation. Datongââ¬â¢s supervisor experienced Guasha and got the family out of the difficulty. Toward the start of the film, Datong appeared to have understood his American dream, for he had a fruitful profession, a dazzling spouse and a delightful kid. He accepted that America was a genuine place where there is openings and outsiders could turn into the really effective Americans by working hard. However, life isn't in every case brimming with roses. The American dream broke for the time being because of the Guasha treatment to his own kid. We canââ¬â¢t tell it is the American or the Chinese that did an inappropriate things. The social contrasts and nearby laws shouldnââ¬â¢t be disregarded by foreigners. The principle line of the film was the Guasha treatment. The kids government assistance association blamed Datong for manhandling his youngster. Like other Chinese, Datong assumed that Guasha was only a common clinical treatment. Notwithstanding, the American didnââ¬â¢t think so.He attempted to guard himself yet neglected to win the claim. As he didnââ¬â¢t have a compelling correspondence, he neglected to convince the American even his old buddy that Guasha was a clinical treatment. Later his old buddy went to encounter Guasha and understood that what he said was valid. At the point when he was charged, he neglected to learn ahead of time the American legitimate framework and strategies and accomplished something unreasonable, which put him into inconveniences over and over. Additionally the Chinese ââ¬Å"faceâ⬠culture is appeared in the film, which canââ¬â¢t be comprehended by the American.Datong beat Dennis on the head since he didnââ¬â¢t need to express sorry to Paul, child of Datongââ¬â¢s chief. His manager thought kidsââ¬â¢ battle was not a serious deal. In spite of the fact that he didnââ¬â¢t think his child wasn't right, he beat him before his supervisor to demonstrate his regard to his chief. His conduct later turned into the proof that he was a brutal dad. Another distinction is regarding and caring matured guardians. Datongââ¬â¢s supervisor couldnââ¬â¢t comprehend why heââ¬â¢d made a substitute for his dad. Datongââ¬â¢s spouse basically depended ââ¬Å"because he is a Chinese.â⬠Datongââ¬â¢s social convictions were so profoundly set that itââ¬â¢s inconceivable for him consider the outcomes of lying. Social contrasts will undoubtedly be there because of the distinctions in context of reasoning, history, topography, method of direct and so on. So do as Rome does while in Rome. Itââ¬â¢s important to have the intercultural mindfulness, endure and adjust to the social assorted variety. Compelling correspondence could be an approach to illuminate the social contrasts. After the correspondence the world would be more amicability later on. I think thatââ¬â¢s why the saint named Datong in Chinese. ( Rushdie, 10 ) This infers the excursion of self find in soiling emergency of independence. Creative mind plays a basic capacity to cover with pieces that are lost everlastingly. Creative mind fills in the spreads of losing bits of history so as to give a superior worry of the entire issue of independence. ââ¬Å" This is a postcolonial message as it carries understanding into the realm of battling towards hold oning distinction and a feeling of having a place â⬠( Carol Elizabeth, 2000 ) . Ondaatje, a long clasp inhabitant of Canada, endeavors to repossess and reconnect his days gone by returning to Sri Lanka so as to accumulate data about his family unit and his relations to hold a superior entrance of his ain singularity. Because of his separation, the recollections of his family unit has the visual part of ââ¬Å" solidified show â⬠so Ondaatje comes back to country ââ¬Å" to bring a breath life into these recollections and contact ( his family unit ) into words â⬠( Carol Eliza beth, 2000 ) where Ondaatje truly starts his excursion soiling his singularity. Ondaatje reconnects with the characters that feed his comprehension of the days of old for representation Aunt Phyllis. Ondaatje is partial to Aunt Phyllis in light of the fact that she was ever close to his male parent, Mervyn Ondaatje. This in a roundabout way infers that Ondaatje is keen on understanding his male parent, in his chase of independence. In Runing in the Family he states, ââ¬Å" The forenoon has been gone through with my sister and my Aunt Phyllis trying to follow the maze of our connections in our genealogy â⬠( Ondaatje, 10 ) . Ondaatje fights in set uping the relativity of the accounts to his ain independence. Ondaatje can't occur the association of these accounts which in some cases appears to be an overstatement, so as to soil his emergency of uniqueness. ââ¬Å" No account is ever told only one time. Regardless of whether a memory or entertaining repulsive earth, we will come back to it a hr consequently and discuss the account with additional items and this clasp a couple of feelings tossed in â⬠( Ondaatje, 12 ) . This suggests the stories that are retold to him are recollections that are included with inventiveness, assessments and basically single situation of an occasion that took topographic point. All these data does n't hope to help Ondaatje in determining a superior entrance of himself. This proceeds with Ondaatje ââ¬Ës emergency of uniqueness. In Runing in the Family it turns out to be progressively evident that Ondaatje ââ¬Ës endeavor in following his family unit is in truth a craving to reconnect to his male parent, Mervyn Ondaatje. His insufficiency of comprehension about his male parent and his male parent ââ¬Ës nonattendance has made void in him. ââ¬Å" He left for England with his female parent after their folks ââ¬Ë separation and his male parent who stayed in Sri Lanka has kicked the bucket from his nonattendance â⬠( Carol Elizabeth, 2000 ) . Ondaatje remembers his beloved recollections about his male parent ââ¬Ës intoxication and before he was ten his folks are isolated. Ondaatje feels the motivation to detangle the puzzler of his parent ââ¬Ës relationship. This can be followed in Runing in the Family epic where he states: ââ¬Å" Love individual businesss rainbowed over marriages and went on for ever-so it often appeared that marriage was the more prominent infidelityaÃâ à ¦But prior, during their fire youngster, this vitality framed complex connections, however I despite everything can non intrude on the codification of how ââ¬Ëinterested in ââ¬Ë or ââ¬Ëattracted ââ¬Ë they were to one another â⬠. ( 47 ) This suggests Ondaatje requests the complicity of his parent ââ¬Ës relationship, where he attempts to compute out why his folks ââ¬Ë marriage broke. ââ¬Å" Ondaatje catches wind of his male parent ââ¬Ës power and intoxication, about his female parent ââ¬Ës emotional virtuoso, about his parent ââ¬Ës articulations and about the fortunes enveloping their separation â⬠( Peter, 2010 ) . Ondaatje understands that consultation every one of these accounts from others about his folks does n't genuinely state him what he needs to distinguish or how it relates with his excursion in soiling his ain emergency of independence. Ondaatje can't cover the existent situation and it stays as a conundrum. Ondaatje can't make full up the losing bits of his uniqueness however Ed Jewinski, a biographer of Ondaatje composes ââ¬Å" for the juvenile artist there was presently a feeling of new convention being shaped, another incredible and basic attitude of the universe â⬠( 31 ) , one that was connected yet not quite the same as the British custom that he knew ( Carol Elizabeth, 2000 ) . A House for Mr Biswas is a novel that is composed by Naipaul dependent on his male parent ââ¬Ës exhortation to take him for a theme. This snippet of data can be found in the Hagiographas of Thieme in The Third World Quaterly: Searching for a Center: The Writing of V.S. Naipaul: ââ¬Å" Naipaul ââ¬Ës existent spot of birth is the ââ¬ËLion House ââ¬Ë , an authorizing structure in the town ââ¬Ës boss road with an alone plan. The house gave the first on which Hanuman House in A House for Mr Biswas was based and it was here that Naipaul spent his most punctual mature ages until his family unit moved, in 1983 to Port of SpainaÃâ à ¦During these mature ages, in the mode related to the portable wonderings of Mr Biswas and his family unit, the Naipauls moved a few times, before at last settling, in 1947 out of a house in the St James in the nation of Port of Spain. This house was the first for the closing house in A House for Mr Biswas â⬠. ( 1354 ) Mr Biswas who is a writer working in the Port of Spain is terminated just before his perish on account of his health status. Mr Biswas experiences the emergency of independence as the account advances. ââ¬Å" I ââ¬Ëm heading out to procure an occupation on my ownaÃâ à ¦I am venturing out to get my ain house exorbitantly â⬠are pledges by Mr Biswas in his longing for vanity and opportunity that engrosses his 40 mature ages emergency of independence. Mr Biswas feels a feeling of offense with the family unit and society he was populating in. This can be followed since the introduction of Mr Biswas, who was brought into the world with six fingers which is seen as a mutilated uniqueness. This can be followed in A House For Mr Biswas: ââ¬Å" Born in the off base way. At 12 PM, you saidaëâ â ¦had accepted that it was 12 PM the heartbreaking houraëâ â ¦the attributes of this disastrous male youngster. He will hold great dentitions however they will be rather wideaëâ â ¦which implies the male youngster will be a satyr and a burn through all. Potentially a prevaricator as wellaÃâ à ¦He will hold an unfortunate sniffling â⬠. ( 16-17 ) This infers since the introduction of Mr Biswas, he is made answerable for the odd conviction that distances him from the family unit and the general public he was populating in. He was seen as the unfortunate one and the 1 who could scarcely win throughout everyday life. The go toing accoucheuse other than anticipated that Mr Biswas with his exceptional finger ââ¬Å" will gobble up his folks â⬠. Mr Biswas experienced childhood in poverty which drives him to lack of healthy sustenance, insufficiency of joining in and limited portability to travel close pools and streams. This emblematically infers confinements that are set all through Mr Biswas life that are at long last broken. ââ¬Å" Mr Biswas encounters inclination and derides for an incredible duration â⬠( hypertext move convention:/www.allre Angel Adamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12644251682642657302noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5395112327043095950.post-65156233876622696312020-06-30T17:30:00.001-07:002020-06-30T17:30:02.896-07:00Glorious Revolution in America Essay - 825 WordsGlorious Revolution in America (Essay Sample) Content: NameProfessors nameCourse numberDate Glorious Revolution in AmericaBefore King James IIThere were steps taken in the early 1680s in the attempt to restructure the New England colonies. Answer: Introduction Health care framework in Australia has incorporated a number of standards and policies for improving the living standards of people in Australia. However, a significant gap within the health care statistics and the provision of health care facilities has been observed in the Australian heath care system. It has been revealed from a number of previous literatures that the mortality and morbidity rate is significantly higher in Australian aboriginals compared to the non-indigenous people. The major contributory factors of the poor health outcomes of the Australian aboriginals include their lack of education and poor life style (Bailie, 2012). In addition, other studies also have highlighted the inaccessibility to the health care system. Other factors include socio-economic status, power of society leaders as well as discrimination and financial instability. To ensure their health and well-being, the health care sector must focus on keeping them in their ancestral habitat, where their w ell-being can be promoted. From a holistic perspective, health promotion needs all the aspect of life including physical, mental, emotional as well as the social wellbeing. As these people have their own tradition and culture, their wellbeing can be promoted in an environment, where they can live with satisfaction. In this essay, the focus would be the life struggle and health issues of the yolngu brothers named Warrack and Mandu. These two brothers belong to an aboriginal family living the northeastern Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory. Warrack has been playing the role of a leader in their yolngu community and was trying to retain their traditions within their future generations. On the other hand, Mandu is a young man, who did not want to be in the community, as he felt boring and started to find things interesting in urban area, such as Melbourne. The essay will emphasize on their health and social issues and will discuss about the ways they can combat with these issues. Background The Yolngu are groups of 40-50 people, living in the Northeast Arnhem Land. Before the arrival of missionaries in 1942, Yolngu population lived a peaceful life in their ancestral habitat. According to the given scenario Yolngu people, in older days, people used to get no sickness at all, it is because, the aboriginal food is balanced (Calma, 2011). The young people did not live at one place all the time, rather they moved from place to place. At their habitat, the natural foods helped them to be fit and healthy. They have been taken away from their native habitat, put into the yard, and said to live in the yard. It has been revealed that, the indigenous people are 40 times more likely to experience and die due to diabetes, a disease that had no existence before the arrival of Europeans. Their freedom has been snatched from them, which is one of the main reasons behind their poor health outcomes. In the European community, the Yolngu people are not able to cope with the new rule of li ving(Cooper, 2011). To adapt in the new community, they need education and assistance to combat with the new situations, but, unfortunately, there is no one for their assistance. Their traditional systems, laws and governance has been undermined by the Europeans rules. Many indigenous Australians are the victims of human rights violation. Others experience systematic discrimination and social exclusion from political and economic power. There are several cases, where the aboriginal populations are dispossessed of their traditional habitats and forced to leave their survival resources. Their traditional languages are threatened with extinction; it is very common phenomenon that an aboriginal people are excluded from any social activity due to linguistic issues. They need respect; they need to explore their human rights like the other non-indigenous people (Burbank, 2011). The health issue of these aboriginal populations should be assessed with more concentration to reduce the health issue related gaps. The European laws and rules has been forced the Yolngu to practice with their perspectives. Yolngu has been ignored, neglected and rejected from political and social viewpoints. A 30 years in-depth research on the lowered health outcomes of the Yolngu people has revealed that, to reduce the negative health outcomes of the Australian aboriginal people, their native community must be given back the control of their own lives (O, 2009). The new policies and practices have not been consulted with the aboriginals, in many cases, they wanted to be involved, but they did not get involvement. Therefore, the nursing intervention for their positive health outcomes must involve them as the major part of their health related intervention. Education is one of the most important parts, which is needed for improving them way of living and to increase their coping ability in the new community. This long and difficult history has left its scars on this native population, which has a negative impact upon the community members economic, social and psychological life. These non-physiological factors are known as the social determinants of health (SDH). In addition to the above determinants, the indigenous health is also affected by the language and culture. The cultural safety and security is another major factor that affects the lifestyle of aboriginal people. The cultural safety and security helps to enhance cultural awareness within the community members (Mallett, 2011). In this essay is focused around two Yolngu brothers, who have grown up in their traditional and ethnic culture. They have four others siblings. The essay is mainly focused on the cultural discrimination and lack of cultural safety of the Yolngu population. The community has been forced to leave their native land and put them in place, where their minimum needs of living is not meeting. Therefore, through th e understanding of the trans-generational trauma, endured by the community, a community nurse can be aware of complex interactions, contributing to the social determinants of health. This understanding will help the nursing staff to implement a holistic and person-centered care approach in the community, while ensuring their cultural safety. Case study of Warrack and Mandu The case study represented the struggle of two Yolngu brothers, Warrack and Mandu. Warrack plays the role of leader in his community. He tries to retain the traditional and ethnic culture in the community. He believes in education, but he also attempts to distribute his traditional education and knowledge in his fellow generation to keep alive the native Yolngu tradition. Recently, the government officers have informed the community that much of the community has taken over for mining and they are no longer allowed for hunting, which was their primary activity of life. Some of the community people got some work in mining industry, but they got the habit of smoking and alcoholism from the industrial environment. These people encouraged other community workers in drug abuse. The result is lowered health outcomes of the community members (Markwick, 2015). The government has provided the opportunity to get medical assistance from the Aboriginal health service in Yirrkala once in a fortni ght, instead of their traditional doctor. Nursing intervention strategies As a nurse in Aboriginal health service in Yirrkala, my primary concern would be to identify their needs; it would be a holistic assessment, for identifying their psychological, physiological, emotional as well as social needs. The initial step would be to take initiative of giving their native habitat back to them because it would be beneficial for by reducing the negative health outcomes of the Yolngu people (Priest, 2012). Establishing a therapeutic relationship with the community is the initial step to address the causes and impact of ill health in the Yolngu community. Establishing a therapeutic relationship with individual community members would help to build a trust on the western therapeutic procedures. For this, communicating with them with respect and dignity is very important. The yolngu people are deprived of their rights, as a human being. Thus, the initial step would be to ensure that they are respected, their feelings, perception and culture is valued. Research has shown that the aboriginals were not consulted about any western policies made for them (Priest, 2012). Thus, consultation with them about their needs, their conflicts and their complex needs can help to improve the quality of therapeutic relationship. The nurses have to communicate with them in their way, by involving in their lifestyle, thereby showing respect to Yolngu culture. In this case, the elders can be consulted first, who can then transfer the message to the rest of the community. For this, interpreter services can be taken. This service helps to reduce linguistic barrier. However, it will be effective, when a nurse have linguistic competency and without taking the help from an interpreter a therapeutic relationship is established. It enhances the trust and cooperatively of the relationship, as well as enhances the chance of interventions success. The establishment of therapeutic relationship with the aboriginals will help to enhance trust on the western treatment, which in turn help them to improve their health outcomes and lifestyle. Conducting a survey is the next step in the intervention plan. It would include close and individual consultation and survey about their problems, their actual needs and the causes behind their poor health status. Interacting individually with the community members would enhance trust; help them to forget about the negligence they have experienced (Reutter, 2010). It would also help nurses to be familiar with the community people and understand their like, dislikes, beliefs and values based on which the intervention plans can be made. Conducting a survey within the aboriginal community will help the nurses to assess the health and other issues experienced by the community; these will have a positive impact upon the aboriginal community by perfectly identifying their health issues and undertaking appropriate medical intervention to resolve these issues. Health promotion is another way to address the health needs and impact of poor health on aboriginals life. They are disadvantaged people; this community does not have much awareness about their social determinant of health. Through health promotions in these people, can make them aware of the facts that contribute into their poor health. As a result, they would be more cooperative with the health care team in developing their care plans for improving the health status (Greenwood, 2012). In this health promotion, the elders in Yolngu community can play a vital role in dispersing awareness within the community. It can reduce the rate of smoking and other drug abuse. Health promotion would include a wide range of positive impact upon the poor health status of the aboriginal community. It is because, through health promotions, the members of the community would be aware of aspects, which can improve their health outcomes, for example, they would be aware of the negative impact of alcohol and tobacco smoking. As a result, the young people would attempt to quit alcohol consumption or smoking. Linking the traditional therapy with the modern nursing interventions is one of the ways to encourage Yolngu people for participating in the western health care system. The Yolngu people are culturally responsive in nature. They believe in their traditional medication, thus involving the traditional therapy with the western health care pattern would improve their satisfaction, which is a major factor that improves the signs of depression, anxiety and the overall mental status (Browne, 2012). An overall mental and emotional well-being would enhance the success rate of the nursing interventions. However, the main success factor of aboriginals improved health is to prioritizing their needs, rights and visualizing the world from their perspective, in spite instructing them about how to live, like white people. It would also have a positive impact upon the physical as well as emotional well being of the Yolngu community. It has been revealed that Yolngu people has a faith on their traditi onal medicines, thus linking their traditional medicines with the modern treatments would help to enhance their adherence with the therapeutic procedures, thereby enhancing their positive health outcomes. Elders in Yolngu Elders have a major role in reducing the rate of ill health in the Yolngu. Here, in the case scenario, the elder word is referred to the people of certain age group, who have enough traditional knowledge about the cultural and ethnicity of a community. In case of Warrack and Mandus case study, the elder people refers to the people like Warrack, who have grown up into the native community habitat and fresh environment, without disturbance of the white people, i.e. Europeans. These elderly people have a major role in the enhancing health related awareness within the young Yolngu generation. One common trait in the aboriginal elders is a deep spirituality, which promotes each aspect of their lives and teaching. They struggle to represent their tradition by living based on their in-depth ingrained principles, values, norms and teaching. However, elders are not defined by their age; rather they are characterized by their earned respect in the community through their harmony, wisdom and ba lance of their actions in their teachings (Jamieson, 2012). Though the role of elders differs from community to community, they follow common principle of safeguarding the community and play the role of leaders. The Yolngu elders are committed to share their earned traditional knowledge, guidance and to teach others about respecting the natural world and their native ethnicity. In yolngu community of the case study, Warrack is an elder, who is being respected in his community as an important, traditional and initiated elder as well as leader. His education started with traditional passed on clan, cultural and environmental knowledge from his elders. With his wife, Warrack teach some traditional knowledge to their kids, when they are not in the school. Thus, he beliefs in nourishing the traditional knowledge, while adopting new and essential educational elements from current culture. Thus, he has all the characteristics necessary for being an Elder. Role of elders in health intervention In the health care initiative, one of the major factors would be to return their ethnic and traditional identity. For this, the people who has been practiced smoking and others abusive behaviors, when they came across the Europeans in the mining industry; should be redirected towards their ethnic and healthy life (Aspin, 2012). The elderly can help to promote their ethnic culture in the community through a health promotion. With the help of their traditional and ethnic knowledge, the elder people might be able to control the young generation to cease smoking and alcohol abuse. In addition, the elder people play the role of leaders, who has better understanding and can protect the community from the external influences. The nursing staffs or health care team can explore the aboriginal world by viewing of health and wellness and can assess the contemporary and emerging trends in the health issues for aboriginal communities through the interaction with the Yolngu leaders and community representatives like Warrck. These people can help the nursing staffs to identify the overall needs of the community, with individual specific requirements. The elders can help the nursing staffs to be aware of their traditional features, which could be included in the nursing interventions for providing them an essence of their traditions in the current nursing interventions and other practices for their health and well-beings (Wilson, 2012). Elders can also assist the community members to understand the nursing interventions and being aware of the facts related to ill health contributors. Therefore, the elder people may act as the bridge between the urban nursing staffs and the community members to promote the communit y health. It will help the nurse to build a trustworthy therapeutic relationship with the yolngu community. In addition, elder people can contact to their traditional doctors and insist for working with the urban nursing staff. It will have a great positive impact upon their mental health. As the holistic care approaches are based on the overall health of the care users, the mental and emotional satisfaction is essential for improved health outcomes (Britt, 2013). A combined therapeutic approach of the modern health care and their traditional health care approach can enhance their mental and emotional satisfaction, thereby improving their health outcomes. In the aboriginal documentary film, our generation, it has been shown that there is a huge difference between the health care facilities, obtained by the remote and urban community people (Saban, 2010). In this context, the people living in remote settings face inaccessibility to the health care facilities. There are several significant differences within an urban and a remote setting of health care facilities. Difference between urban and rural settings The social determinant of health has a great impact upon the overall health of outcomes of a community. These determinants are dependent on the social, economic, physical and cultural environment of the habitat. Environmental In case of remote or rural settings people likely to have a good health, as they are nourished by the nature, rather than obtaining nourishment from the technical world like in the urban settings (Aspin, 2012). In spite of the fact, it has been seen that people living in more area has suffered more than the urban population in terms of health aids. Social There are several reasons, for example, in case of Warrack and Mandus case study, it has been seen that the mining industry offered some Yolngu men to work there; however, from there Yognlu people brought cigarettes, alcohol and other stuffs back to their community, which affecting the health of the entire community negatively. Economic Another major difference is the accessibility of the health care facilities. It has been seen that the communities like Yolngu community, does not get opportunity for higher education, which is very important for getting suitable jobs. Due to lack of educational qualifications, these rural residents are not getting skilled jobs. Their unemployment is the major reason behind their financial instability (Ford, 2012). The poor economic condition promotes their malnourishment, which in turn contributes into their poor health outcomes and mortality rate. Their financial background, dont let them access the urban health care facilities (Aspin, 2012). Physical In the case of Warrack and Mandus case study, it has been revealed that, government provided health care services by the community doctors and nurses, who visit them once in a fortnight. However, these people are not able to go to the urban hospital or urban health care facilities, due to the expense of going to the urban areas and experience the urban facilities. Thus, due to lack of treatment, the mortality and morbidity rate increases along with increased illness throughout the community. According to Bourke et al. (2012), more community services and health care facilities should be present in the rural community, for providing them continuous health care assistance. It can reduce the negative impact on health and rate of mortality and morbidity. Cultural In an urban area, the community members are educationally developed as compared to the rural community; it becomes easy for the health care staffs to implement medical procedures easily with users support. In rural community, their cultural responsiveness is lower towards the modern medical care than the urban population. Reason behind Aboriginals disadvantaged life in town Aboriginal people are disadvantaged in several ways, while living in town. Their situation can be demonstrated with the example of Warracks brother Mandu and the aboriginals documentary film Our generation. In the documentary, it has been shown that Yolngu community has been forced to live in an open yard, and their native land has been taken over by the Australian government (Saban, 2010). They are getting sicker day by day due to lack of their natural habitat, natural food and traditional medications (Wilson, 2012). They were trying to adopt the urban culture, but no assistance was provided them to adapt the new environment. It has been seen that, deprived of their natural resources of life, they are getting sicker day by day. Yolngu people are freely living community, who hunts from their native land and eats natural foods (Jorm, 2012). However, while living in town, it has been seen that, they are deprived of hunting and natural food, rather, they are brought to Yirrkala shop, wh ere they have to eat processed food, therefore, their diet has been changed and this has a significant impact upon their poor health. Cultural issues The cultural components are also there, contributing to their poor health. According to Warracks case, his children are getting urban education in school, but they have no free time to sit beside their parents and gather traditional knowledge. Warrack and other elders are afraid of the fact that, if this kind of situation carries on, their cultural and traditional knowledge would not be carried to their future generation. So both husband and wife start giving traditional knowledge which they do not get in school. In this case scenario, Mandu, who is the younger brother of Warrack, was bored to his life in community and wanted to experience urban lifestyle, thus he came to Melbourne. Initially, he got a job in national park and his life was going well. However, the cultural discrimination and biasness interrupted their normal life, he was accused for stealing money and other things from his workplace. Racial conflict highlighted Mandus position in urban society. Economic issues After leaving the first job, Mandu failed to find other job due to his low educational and academic qualification. Losing his job, Mandu was not financially stable to pay for his accommodation. Therefore, Mandus example clearly highlights the impact Aboriginals low education on their lifestyle (Browne, 2012). As he had no experience for skilled job, it was tough for Mandu to live in the city. Lack of cultural competency made him more vulnerable towards poor health. He was stressed for his future; as his English was not good, unskilled jobs were also not available for him in Melbourne. He even did not have enough money to buy a ticket for Yirrikala. Mandu is now living with a koorie family, by sharing a room with 4 teenage kids. In the documentary our generation, it has been shown that government has promised them to give their own houses, but now, 20-30 people are lives in a house, in an unhealthy environment (Saban, 2010). Medical research has shown that this overcrowded house enhan ces the chance of infection (Bleich, 2012). Economic issues The communities people are still waiting for their own house, build by government. The urban society has snatched their freedom, enhancing the rate of depression in the community people. Economically, the community has no stability or financial support. They are neither enough skilled to get a job in urban areas, nor they are getting financial support to help themselves (Flicker, 2012). In Warracks community, the community nurses and doctors come once in a fortnight. It might be due to the lack of funding from Australian government support regarding medical support to the aboriginal community. It shows lack of health assessment, leading to poor health status. Unemployment is one of the major social and economical reasons behind their poor health status of aboriginals. Their educational qualifications were not suitable to get a job in urban society. Thus, their poor economic status promoted their poor health status. Aboriginal people were not able to bare the expense of getting treatm ent from urban hospitals; on the other hand, the community health facilities lack modern tools of healthcare, thereby lowering their health outcomes. In addition, their traditional medication is also not available, which might help them to improve their health status. Like Mandu, the aboriginals are being discriminated in professional and political world, they are neglected by the government and other social powers. The social issue is poverty. Lack of employment, financial support and native habitat, poverty became the main issue in their lives. Due to poor diet and lack of natural food, malnourishment promoted their ill health. Other social issues include cigarette smoking, drug addiction and alcoholism. Even, it has also been reported that the rate of child sexual abuse is high in the aboriginal society than non-aboriginals (Adams, 2012). It is one of the major causes behind the poor mental health and increased rate of depression and cognitive impairment in the aboriginal society. In case of Mandu, the social discrimination has been observed significantly. When Mandu was severely ill, he became vulnerable for living in the city. He was taken to a place, where he got no respect and faced wired behavior. The result of these kinds of action was de pression and loss of cooperative behavior and communication skills (Bleich, 2012). This scenario highlights how the aboriginals, who wants to adapt the norms and lifestyle of western society are being dominated and disadvantaged, pulling them behind in spite of assisting them to go forward. In conclusion, it can be said that the aboriginal Australians are the vulnerable and ignored community in Australia, who are not getting their basic human rights, which is the main reason behind their ill health. In order to restore their health status, the nursing interventions should rely on prioritizing their social and economic needs. Therefore, it has been revealed that, there is a strong link between the aboriginals social, economic and physical health status. Homelands are the fundamental component of their lives, but the government does not understand their demand, which is negatively affecting their lives. Government attempted to improve the aboriginals health by urbanizing them into small towns after taking them out from their native ancestral homeland. It is highly disrespectful for governments to tell people that how they will live their lives. In this essay, the scenario of Warrack and Mandus community has highlighted their struggle, negligence and poor health outcomes f rom the view of social and economic conflict. Government has taken several steps for improving their health status, but their needs are not being prioritized. They are being neglected day by day; their promises were not met, which contributed to major health issues like depression. Answer: Company Chosen - Apple Performance of company The ratios considered is based on the annual return of 2015 (Anon, 2015) Profitability Ratios The Company is reflecting various ratios under profitability, under which important are ROE, Return on Assets, asset turnover and net profit. The performance as seen states that all ratios are high. Higher ROE may mean that the company is using the available advantages at high-speed which will slow down the ratio in near future. Higher ROA reflects great capital investment in fixed assets, which is necessary for a company. Net profit of the company is above average, but the expense covered by it is considered in-depth. Liquidity ratios - It considers Current ratio and Quick Ratio. The former is 1.1:1, which means that the company is able to pay current liabilities from its cash and current assets which are converted easily on demand. The latter is 0.89:1 which means that company is not having enough cash in hand to pay off the short-term liabilities. Therefore, it means that to pay off the liabilities, the company will need converting inventories and debtors, marketable securities into cash. However, conversion is done easily as per the ratio. Solvency Ratio Debt to equity ratio is 0.45 which means that there 45% are debts as stakeholders. The company is having investors in large number which is not a good indicator for investors and creditors. It is an expensive financing as interest payments are also made in it. Equity ratio determines how much of the equity is used to finance assets. The ratio is 41.09% which is High means investors believe in the company. The debt ratio is 58.91% which reflects that most of the assets is used to pay the liabilities. This situation is risky for the investors. The performances of the company based on above ratios are showing that the company is able to earn huge profit in a short period and it believes in investing in fixed assets of the company. The payout ratios are also above average, and when needed the company is able to convert the current assets into cash. The cash in hand is not much to cover the liabilities. The risky reason in considering debts as financial source is that when they forms a major part of the finance, though not as half of the equity, they are tend to make financial statement look rough. Debts carry the baggage of interest on it which decreases the investors capital. The company is offers various products, because of which its competitors too are different in each product category. The competitors in the field of PCs are Dell, Acer, Hewlett, and Lenovo. In mobile computers are Samsung, Nokia, Asus, and Google. In Smartphones are HTC, Lenovo, Huawei, Samsung and Sony, In Entertainment media are Google only. In mobile payments are PayPal, Google (Investopedia, 2015). The rank of the company in the same industry is found to be no, 1 (Fortune, 2015). Apple with its innovative factors ranging from financial to non financial has made it to the top because of commitment to each such reason and toward the stakeholders. Non Financial factors of the Company (Anon, 2015) It is important for an investor to consider factors other than financial. Apple ranks no. 1 in all the given factors. The given factors are important and are taking the centre stage in making decision while investing (Fortune, 2015) People Management It is the way and trait of a leader leading its employees to make the success for the company. A good ranking defines about the companies hold on its employees in a good way, and how the former work hard to reach the goal. This way company will do well. Social responsibility (Anon, 2015) It means that the company is fulfilling its social obligations such as tax, compliance of laws, ethics, etc. It is like an image which it makes in the stakeholders eyes. A good Social responsibility of the company affects it in the long run. The investor gets affected by it as it reflects the brand which company is and safeguards the interests in profit. Quality Management (Douglas, T.J, Judge,W.Q) It deals with the quality of an organization, services or product. It consists of four components. These are planning, control, assurance and improvement. When the products or services being made or delivered by the company is of top most quality then, its performance will also get better leading to high sales and revenues which an investor is looking for. Do we need more space? The National Aeronautics and Space Administration, or NASA for short, plays a necessary and vital role in human life. It provides economic stability for the country, the common-day luxuries we have all come to expect, medical discoveries and advances, an insurance policy for the planet, and fulfills mankind's eternal desire for exploration. Though there are many critics of the federally-funded space program, it indeed plays a central role in both the history and the future of the country. The space program is a major component in our country's economic stability. The industry generates more than $40 billion in annual exports, and almost $30 billion in positive balance of trade each year. (FAQs 1) The space program also supports nearly one million jobs. (FAQs 1) Yet, NASA's funding represents only about one penny out of every dollar in the US federal budget. This is down from a peak of about four cents during the height of the Apollo program in the late 1960's. (FAQs 1) The dissolution of NASA, along with destroying these one million jobs, would cost the country approximately $70 billion in revenue each year. New industries have been built on the technology that made space exploration possible, including personal computers, advanced medical equipment, and high-tech communications. NASA's research and development generates jobs, demand for goods and services, and new opportunities for further research and development. The space program had and continues to be a strong i nfluence on the economics and prosperity of the country. The applications of the space program have a profound effect on human life as we know it. In just a few short years, our lives have been significantly changed by space technology. The space program is responsible for the orbiting spacecraft that transmit information such as phone calls and television signals around the globe with speed and precision. Other satellites monitor the weather, and the world wide condition of the atmosphere. This provides advance warnings of major, possibly catastrophic, weather phenomena. Along with data on current weather patterns, satellites can forecast problems with the atmosphere that may create problems in the future. Present day satellite-based navigation systems aboard planes and boats enable people to determine their exact location and heading accurately. This improves safety and makes travel more efficient. In more ways than one, the space program has an immediate effect on many aspects of our life. Research by the space program into the medical sciences affects all people. NASA is currently running experiments aimed at improving our quality of life and life expectancy. For instance, the Visual Sciences Department is working on a premise that the weightlessness of space would have a positive effect on the retinas of the human eye, causing less blindness and poor eyesight in humans by negating the pull of gravity. (Vision 1) The Department of Immunology has a theory that the human immune system is strongly influenced by environmental factors such as pollution, and space living would increase the strength and immunity of humans. (Immune 1) Perhaps the largest area of study at this time is from the bone and calcium studies, relating bone loss to gravity, and noting how bones respond to weightlessness. (Calcium 1) These projects, along with countless others currently being studied, will have a lasting effect on humankind. A different, yet valid argument was made by Ms. Sylvia Engdah l, Professor in Space Studies at Princeton. Her view on the importance of space flight centers around the need for insurance for mankind. There are still very real possibilities that the earth could be destroyed by nuclear war, terrorist attacks, or even an asteroid. We all hope and believe that our homes won't burn down, and yet we buy fire insurance. Does not our species as a whole need an insurance policy? (Engdahl, 1) This is an interesting theory and a valid point, but we obviously have a ways to go before space is ready for a mass exodus from the planet earth. A detailed energy system model has been developed to find the relation between the aims of 2050 and 2100. By using a computer simulation, future greenhouse gas emissions have been put on the test assuming there is no climate policy in practice. Implications of limiting emissions by 2050 have been analyzed on different levels. According to the study, current technologies wonââ¬â¢t help in achieving the set targets for 2100. There are two options suggested: either reduce 20 percent below 2000 levels by mid-century to maintain the option for end-of-the-century or as per the rising needs of energy and land, the reduction should be 50 percent, which is unattainable with the given energy resources.According to the research team, more research needs to be made on technological feasibility for mid-and end-of-century emission deadlines to circumspect the issue.Science Daily has attracted the attention of its readers towards the South Asian monsoon the reason of which could be heat and moisture from the Himalayas. In the second principle, anarchism employs proactive approaches, where they assume that not everyone in society has the ability to get access to the free services offered. Therefore, it is upon those who have to make sure that they share with those who do not have. While people may confuse anarchism and terrorism as being one thing, they are completely two different forms of leadership. Even though both of them employ oppression theories, anarchism tends t o champion for equality and protecting human rights where possible (Fleming, 2000). On the other hand, terrorism, which is motivated by extreme radicalization of religious ideologies, has little thought of what human rights are. They believe dying is the only way through which people can protect the Islamic religion and have an external peace. However, anarchism has varying schools of thought, where individualist anarchism and anarcho-capitalism believe that all natural resources should be privatized. The same case is common in the Middle East countries, where people are allowed to own oil wells, while those who are not lucky are either poor or into other businesses. The other school of thought, which involves libertarian socialism and geoanarchism believe that natural resources should remai n public so that every person benefits from the revenue. Terrorist organizations identified with anarchism include Anarchist Black Cross, Autonomous Action, Foot Not Bombs, and International of Anarchist Federations among others (Book chin, 2005). Most terror groups seem to use anarchism, with the thought that by owning natural resources, especially oil, uranium, and other weaponry mineral will make them superpower militia groups and would control every activity in its boundaries. Just the small simple things people donââ¬â¢t really appreciate, being ungrateful for the things that have been given to them. Many people and different situations have paved the way for our generation to become much easier to live in. African Americans during the civil rights movement had to face a lot of trills in order to make the world a better place. Many people donââ¬â¢t appreciate that because they are unaware of just how much grief African Americans had to go though to create a path for the upcoming generation. African Americans faced many hardships during the civil rights movement, some of those hardships were segregation, voting rights, and assassination of prominent African American leaders. Segregation was such a big obstacle for African Americans because not only were they not allowed to go certain places it became bigger than that. Everything in African Americans lives were split in half. There were white only signs places all over there towns. White only signs for bathrooms, restaurants, and water fountains. Everything was separated between the two races blacks and whites. One event that really stuck out like a sore thumb was The Montgomery Bus Boycott. During, the time of segregation blacks were allowed to ride the buses, but many rules had to apply. Blacks had a blackââ¬â¢s only section on the bus that could be moved in any location of the bus. That means that the blacksââ¬â¢ only sign could be moved in front of two rows on the bus if thatââ¬â¢s what the bus driver wanted. Black riders had to pay their bus far on the front of the bus and get off to walk to the back of the bus to ride. Some bus drivers would allow the blacks to pay and when the step off the bus the bus driver would drive away and leave them. When blacks did receive a chance to ride on the bus, if a white person did not have a seat to sit in a black person had to give up their seat. The blacks of Montgomery, Alabama, decided that they would boycott the city buses until they could sit anywhere they wanted, instead of being relegated to the back when a white boarded. On December 1, 1955, Mrs. Rosa Parks, an African American seamstress, was arrested in Montgomery, Alabama for not standing and letting a white bus rider take her seat. The plan to stop the whites from making the blacks move was the boycott. Blacks would no longer ride the buses anymore. That means that the bus companies were losing a lot of money. Blacks would walk to work or school and even carpool, but would not step foot on the buses. The boycott continued for over a year. Eventually, the United States Supreme Court put an end to the boycott. On November 13, 1956 the Court declared that Alabamas state and local laws requiring segregation on buses were illegal. On December 20th federal injunctions were served on city and bus company officials forcing them to follow the Supreme Courts ruling. African Americans had to face a lot just so that they could be treated as an equal on the bus. Segregation played a huge role in the school system. In public schools more so than any. Thatââ¬â¢s what stated the big flare Brown vs. Board of Education. The 1954 United States Supreme Court decision in Oliver L. Brown vs. the Board of Education of Topeka (KS) is among the most significant judicial turning points in the development of our country. Originally led by Charles H. Houston, and later Thurgood Marshall and a formidable legal team, it dismantled the legal basis for racial segregation in schools and other public facilities. Brown vs. Board of Education was not simply about children and education. The laws and policies struck down by this court decision were products of the human tendencies to prejudge, discriminate against, and stereotype other people by their ethnic, religious, physical, or cultural characteristics. Ending this behavior as a legal practice caused far reaching social and ideological implications, which continue to be felt throughout our country. The Brown decision inspired and galvanized human rights struggles across the country and around the world. The U. S. Supreme Court decision in Brown began a critical chapter in the maturation of our democracy. It reaffirmed the sovereign power of the people of the United States in the protection of their natural rights from arbitrary limits and restrictions imposed by state and local governments. These rights are recognized in the Declaration of Independence and guaranteed by the U. S. Constitution. Brown was giving African Americans the opportunity to be accepted as an individual and not just as a race. Now, you would think that after the Brown vs. Board of Education whites would accept African Americans and treat them better. That was not the case and segregation did not stop there. Although, many people had hoped that it would it took the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to really make a change. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was a landmark piece of legislation in the United States that outlawed major forms of discrimination against blacks and women, and ended racial segregation in the United States. It ended unequal application of voter registration requirements and racial segregation in schools, at the workplace and by facilities that served the general public. Once the Act was implemented, its effects were far-reaching on the country as a whole and had an immediate impact on the South. It prohibited discrimination in public facilities, in government, and in employment, invalidating the Jim Crow laws in the southern U. S. It became illegal to compel segregation of the races in schools, housing, or hiring. After passage of the law, the NAACP was the only major civil rights organization to maintain a large membership in the South, where it concentrated on organizing the ongoing struggle for black civil rights. During 1965-75, the NAACP remained committed to using litigation to challenge racial injustice. African Americans had to fight hard to get what they deserved and it took a lot of patients and time to receive change but it finally happened. That is we segregation ended and Africans were free to sit, eat, talk, shop, and work anywhere they wanted. Being able to vote is a very important ordeal. Many people in this day and time take advantage of being able to voice their opinions. Not taking advantage of who we desire to have in office is a sign of being ungrateful. African Americans were not given that right years ago. African Americans had to fight just so that they could vote. Thatââ¬â¢s when the Voting Act of 1965 came in play. Before, this Act was enforced African Americans had to take a literacy tests and pay poll taxes. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 abolished literacy tests and poll taxes designed to disenfranchise African American voters, and gave the federal government the authority to take over voter registration in counties with a pattern of persistent discrimination. Echoing the language of the 15th Amendment, the Act prohibits states from imposing any voting qualification or prerequisite to voting, or standard, practice, or procedure to deny or abridge the right of any citizen of the United States to vote on account of race or color. The Act was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson, a Democrat, who had earlier signed the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964 into law. Being able to vote was an honor and so many people donââ¬â¢t even both to go vote during the elections today. African Americans fought for the right to vote without having to take tests or pay poll taxes and people still donââ¬â¢t go out to vote. That is taking voting rights for granted. Being an African American during the civil rights movement was a challenge, but being an African American woman was even difficult. Thatââ¬â¢s when the period of womenââ¬â¢s suffrage played its role. Womenââ¬â¢s Suffrage is the right of women to vote and to run for office. The expression is also used for the economic and political reform movement aimed at extending these rights to women and without any restrictions or qualifications such as property ownership, payment of tax, or marital status. Being a woman in this time period restricted of many rights. Womens suffrage has been granted at various times in various countries throughout the world, and in many countries it was granted before universal suffrage. Without womenââ¬â¢s suffrage women would still be restricted to make decisions and just be limited to being mothers and wives. The womenââ¬â¢s suffrage broke that cycle. The best way to leave a positive mark on the world is being a leader. It takes a lot of heart, courage, and sacrifice, in becoming a great leader. Leaders are persons that people look up to. They depend on a leader to give them hope to carry on and a positive role model to look up to. There were not too many people that wanted to take the position of being a leader, but a few chose to step up to the plate. African Americans needed kind and encouraging words to help uplift them during the civil rights movement. Two great leaders Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Melcolm X took on a job to lead the world into a better place called freedom. The two leaders gave African Americans hope to continue on when they wanted to just give up. African Americans depended on these two prominent leaders to strengthen them. African Americans during the civil rights movement needed to relay on someone and those leaders were the perfect ones. No one would have ever been ready for what was expected to come. For years African American have been told what they could and couldnââ¬â¢t do. They have been talked about, abused, lied on, and have had everything taken from them. But, still they have stayed strong through it all. When all they had were two great prominent leaders and they were taken from them as well they still stayed strong. Two great prominent leaders were assonated. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. Martin Luther King Jr. was an American clergyman, activist, and prominent leader in the African American civil rights movement. He was best known for being an iconic figure in the advancement of civil rights in the United States and around the world, using nonviolent methods following the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. King was often presented as a heroic leader in the history of modern American liberalism. A Baptist minister, King became a civil rights activist early in his career. He led the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott and helped found the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1957, serving as its first president. Kings efforts led to the 1963 March on Washington, where King delivered his I Have a Dream speech. There, he expanded American values to include the vision of a color blind society, and established his reputation as one of the greatest orators in American history. But, as people have said ââ¬Å"all things must come to an end. â⬠At 6:01 p. m. on April 4, 1968, a shot rang out. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. , who had been standing on the balcony of his room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, TN, lay sprawled on the balconys floor. A gaping wound covered a large portion of his jaw and neck. A great man who had spent thirteen years of his life dedicating himself to nonviolent protest had been felled by a snipers bullet. As affirmed by the Wilson Quarterly (Autumn 98, Vol. 22 Issue 4), ââ¬Å"Ben Wildavsky, a staff correspondent for the National Journal (Jan. 24, 1998), provides statistical background. In 1997, nearly 42 percent of women with children under six were working full-time, 5 percent were looking for work, 18 percent had part-time jobs, and 35 percent were not working outside the homeâ⬠(p.115). Using these figures it is said that 65 percent of women with children aged younger than six are working or would like to be. Daycare is a necessity for the majority of working American mothers. Within the past 20 years child social developmentalists have accumulated evidence to show that unless children gain minimal social competence by the age of six years, they have a high probability of being at risk throughout life. (Denham & Burton, 1996) Thus peer relationships contribute a great deal to both social and cognitive development and to the effectiveness with which we function as adults. Others suggest that the number of caregivers and the amount of time children spend away from parentsââ¬â¢ harms parent-child relationships thus, weakening cognitive and emotional development (Kelly, 2000). This paper will discuss the effects of daycare on children and how to choose one of high quality. Many daycare opponents believe bonding, a strong emotional attachment that forms between a child and parent, is disrupted when mothers and fathers rely on others to be substitute parents. Children who are securely bonded to parents are more confident in their explorations of their environment and have a higher sense of self-esteem than children who are insecurely bonded to their parents. Dr. Stanley Greenspan, a professor of psychiatry and pediatrics at George Washington University Medical School, who has authored several books including the recent book, The Irreducible Needs of Children says, ââ¬Å"A warm, loving human relationship is very important for intellectual development. Children form their capacity to think and self-image based on these back-and-forth interactions. Fewer of these are happening, because families are so busy and more care is being done outside the home. Studies [show] that for all ages, 85 percent of day care is not high qualityâ⬠(Kelly, 200... ...ay Setting. Child Study Journal, 28(3) (1998). 225-245. Kelly, K. (2000, October 30). The quantum will depend on the operations of the company as well its policies relating to inventory storage and accounting. However advances in technology and new techniques of production have made it possible for companies to reduce inventory, albeit not eliminate it completely. Technological innovations and developments including barcode readers, asset tracking devices, inventory management software and Point of Sales (POS) systems, among others, aid greatly in reducing excess inventory. With the help of these devices a company is made aware of the exact quantity and type of stock it possesses. Sales, purchases and stock-in-progress are readily recorded and the resulting final stock value can be determined immediately. As a result, the company can identify the excess stock present and choose to either reduce production or increase deliveries to customers. This will decrease the inventory. Moreover, with the use of inventory management software, a company can plan and schedule the production process in a manner so as to manufacture the quantity of goods that will match the demand for the same. Various new techniques of production that reduce inventory, and thereby costs, have also been developed. The most popular one is the Just-in-Time (JIT) method of production or the Toyota Production System. The JIT system integrates various areas of production and management to reduce inventory and the costs associated with its storage and supervision. It relies on signals called ââ¬Å"Kanbanâ⬠that notify when the next part of the process must be implemented. Production is driven by demand and the system stresses upon such inventory-reducing methods as reducing lot-sizes, ensuring frequent deliveries and reduction of number of parts. Thus, advances in technology have allowed companies to significantly reduce their inventory. With the use of these innovations, a company can discern the actual need for inventory and plan its production and other operations accordingly. Wastage of stock as well as money will be diminished. Nonetheless it must be noted that no company can survive with zero inventory. Every company will have to maintain a certain amount of stock to continue operations without interruption. Thus, advancements in technology can help a company to reduce inventory to a large extent, but not to eliminate it completely. Information Technology Security is one of the most rapidly growing careers in the national and international business world. Security is becoming increasingly important to the entire business and economic world, from the small business and the growing agency, to the larger firm, the giant corporation, and at the state, government, and international levels. As technology continues to advance and develop, a demand for technological security grows and develops in the same proportion. Information Technology Security is perhaps one of the greatest issues facing our nation today. How does one prepare to become involved in the world of Information Technology Security? Where is Information Technology security utilized in the business world and what does it involve? Information Technology security refers to the safekeeping and protection of technological data against unauthorized access or modification, the denial of entrance to authorized users, the granting of entrance to unauthorized users, and the measures taken to prevent such instances. The more valuable the technological information, the higher degree of security needed. Basically, Information Technology security is really about risk assessment and minimization of that risk getting the right technological data in the right hands, at the right time. Information Technology security protects confidentiality, integrity, and availability. .uf8b95f2d2cbd443bb297e4e274c610ac { padding:0px; margin: 0; padding-top:1em!important; padding-bottom:1em!important; width:100%; display: block; font-weight:bold; background-color:#eaeaea; border:0!important; border-left:4px solid #34495E!important; box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -moz-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -o-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); text-decoration:none; } .uf8b95f2d2cbd443bb297e4e274c610ac:active, .uf8b95f2d2cbd443bb297e4e274c610ac:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; text-decoration:none; } .uf8b95f2d2cbd443bb297e4e274c610ac { transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; } .uf8b95f2d2cbd443bb297e4e274c610ac .ctaText { font-weight:bold; color:inherit; text-decoration:none; font-size: 16px; } .uf8b95f2d2cbd443bb297e4e274c610ac .post Title { color:#000000; text-decoration: underline!important; font-size: 16px; } .uf8b95f2d2cbd443bb297e4e274c610ac:hover .postTitle { text-decoration: underline!important; } READ Paralegal Degree Options OnlineInformation Technology security is an essential part of every industry in Business Administration including Health Care, Banking, Accounting and Finance, Insurance, Investments, Mergers and Acquisitions, and especially on the local, state, and national government levels. Queen Victoria is associated with Britains great age of industrial expansion, economic progress, and especially, empire. At her death it was said, ââ¬Å"Britain had a worldwide empire on which the sun never setâ⬠(Axelrod-Contrada 23). Queen Victoria set the tone of the British Empire for later monarchs by ruling through a series of powerful prime ministers who took political control of Britain. In the early part of her reign, two men influenced her greatly: her Prime Minister, Lord Melbourne, as well as her husband, Prince Albert, whom she married in 1840. Both men taught her much about how to be a ruler in a constitutional monarchy where the monarch had very few powers but could wield much leverage. It was during Victorias reign that the modern idea of the constitutional monarch, whose role was to remain above political parties, began to evolve. However, Victoria was not always non-partisan, and she would exploit opportunities to express her opinions, sometimes ver y forcefully, in private. Victoria was born at Kensington Palace, London, on the May 24, 1819. She was the only daughter of Edward, Duke of Kent. Her father died shortly after her birth, making her heir to the throne because the three uncles who were ahead of her in the line of succession (George IV, Frederick Duke of York, and William IV) had no legitimate children who had survived. Victoria was warmhearted and lively. She had a gift for drawing and painting. Victoria was a natural diarist and kept a regular journal throughout her life. On William IVs death in 1837, she became Queen at the age of 18. ââ¬Å"I was awoke at 6 oclock by Mamma, who told me that the Archbishop of Canterbury and Lord Conyngham were here, and wished to see me. I got out of bed and went into my sitting-room (only in my dressing-gown), and alone, and saw them. Lord Conyngham (the Lord Chamberlain) then acquainted me that my poor Uncle, the King, was no more, and had expired at 12 minutes past 2 this m orning, and consequently that I am now Queenâ⬠(Nevill 103). On her first day as monarch, Queen Victoria assured Lord Melbourne that it had long been her ââ¬Å"intention to retain him and the rest of the present Ministry at the head of affairsâ⬠(Arnstein 37). In practice, she had no alternative because Melbourneââ¬â¢s coalition of Whigs and Radicals outnumbered the opposition Tory (or Conservative) party, headed by Sir Robert Peel in the House of Commons and by the Duke of Wellington in the House of Lords. Before long, the young queenââ¬â¢s primary concern became Melbourneââ¬â¢s retaining his majority in Parliament while she retained Melbourne as her chief minister. Within a very few weeks she had persuaded herself that Melbourne was ââ¬Å"a thoroughly straightforward, disinterested, excellent and kindhearted manâ⬠(Arnstein 38). Whatever the subject, the prime minister was able to explain it to Victoria ââ¬Å"like a kind father would do to his chil d; he has something so . . . affectionate and kind in him, that one must love himâ⬠(Arnstein 38). The partnership that began in June 1837 between the 58-year-old prime minister and the 18-year-old queen remains one of the most unusual and most engaging of political romances in recorded history mostly because their deliberations, their conversations, and the gossip that they exchanged were recorded in detail by Queen Victoria herself in the entries that she made each night in her journal. In the queenââ¬â¢s eyes Melbourne was himself a truly romantic figure. He had served since 1806 as a Member of Parliament. He had survived the Napoleonic Wars and the ââ¬Ëera of domestic unrestââ¬â¢ that followed. He not only knew personally most of the influential people in the Britain of the late 1830ââ¬â¢s, but he had also met, and could vividly describe, their parents and their grandparents. It was through Lord Melbourne that Queen Victoria developed an immediate sense of wh at it had been like to experience the Regency era. Victoria was aware that Melbourne had endured a difficult family life: his wife, Caroline Lamb, had been guilty of numerous infidelities including a passionate and widely publicized affair with the poet Lord Bryon. She had died mad, and yet he had never deserted her. Their only surviving child, a son, was an epileptic who had died at age 29. A lonely widower, Melbourne possessed both the time and the desire to serve for several years not only as the Queenââ¬â¢s prime minister but also as her private secretary, her riding companion, and often her dinner and after-dinner companion. They spent as many as six hours together on a single day, talking not only about politics past and present but also about clothing and hair styles, about marriages historical and contemporary, and about the presence and absence of personal beauty among member of the court circle and elsewhereâ⬠(Arnstein 39). By the standards of the 1830ââ¬â¢s , Melbourne at 58 was an old man, but for a time, he was stimulated by the enthusiasm and by the energy of the young queen. As time passed, she necessarily became influenced by Melbourneââ¬â¢s Whig political philosophy, which was tolerant but mildly cynical. Victoria became so partisan a Whig n her private comments that the prime minister felt compelled to remind his monarch at regular intervals that the Tory party also possessed able members who made useful contributions to public debate and who might one day serve as her ministers. Melbourne headed a reform ministry, but by 1837, his main desire became calming the political waters. He supported an ideological position halfway between absolute rule and democracy. On the one hand, he feared the prospect of popular democracy: if the illiterate masses were abruptly granted the right to choose their rulers, then they would in all likelihood fall victim to demagogues. On the other hand, Melbourne much preferred the rule of law and of reason, even as he was fully prepared to accept that most people failed to behave reasonably much of the time. ââ¬Å"You had better try to do no good,â⬠he told Victoria on one occasion, ââ¬Å"and then youââ¬â¢ll get into no scrapesâ⬠(Arnstein 39-40). Even as some of his cabinet colleagues sought to expand the role of the national government, Melbourne preferred a regime that focused on two purposes: to prevent and punish crime and to preserve contracts. Although most historians have credited Melbourne with the best of intentions in the education of his new sovereign, many have been critical about his failure to develop Victoriaââ¬â¢s social conscience. He had no desire to abolish Englandââ¬â¢s reformed Poor Law of 1834, which continued by the means of parish Poor Law unions and workhouses to provide food, clothing, and shelter for the very poor, the very sick, and the very old. Although somewhat reluctant, he also went along with the Factory Act of 1833 , which prohibited children under nine from working in cotton mills. Children aged 9 to 13 were to be limited to an 8-hour working day and to be given schooling forced by law. Neither Melbourne nor any other political leader of his day expected to transform Britain into a society resembling the post-1945 welfare state. He took it for granted that although his ministry might pass regulations involving child welfare and public health, it lacked the authority, the personnel, and the financial resources to provide all of Victoriaââ¬â¢s subjects with ââ¬Ëcradle-to-the-grave-securityââ¬â¢. On such matters, Queen Victoria found it easy to agree with the wisdom of the day. At the same time, she was quite sympathetic to personal tales of distress when called to her attention. In due time, the question arose of when and how Victoria might appropriately find a husband. The Tories hoped that a husband might cause the ââ¬ËWhig Queenââ¬â¢ to become a less partisan monarch whi le the Whigs realized that without a husband, Victoria could not continue the royal succession. If she married, then Victoria could rid herself of her mother as palace chaperone, but it could also introduce the possibility of disagreements with the new husband. As the queen admitted to Melbourne, she was ââ¬Å"ââ¬Ëso accustomed to have my own way. ââ¬â¢ Melbourne responded: ââ¬ËOh! but you would have it stillââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ (Arnstein 46). Elizabeth was very much aware that since her childhood, her Uncle Leopold had hoped for a marriage with Albert, the younger son of the Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. When Albert and his elder brother came to Windsor for a visit, Victoria found Albert beautiful: ââ¬Å"His blue eyes, his exquisite nose, his broad shoulder, and his fine waist, his conversational talents, his love of music, and his ability to danceâ⬠(Arnstein 46). Within three days she confided in Lord Melbourne that she had changed her opinion about marriage. In mar ital matters, a reigning queen had to take the initiative. Two days later, with Melbourneââ¬â¢s encouragement, she proposed marriage to Albert. He accepted. A wedding date was set for February 10, 1840, and another chapter in Queen Victoriaââ¬â¢s life was about to begin. A few months before Albert became her husband, Queen Victoria remarked to her Uncle Leopold that ââ¬Å"the English are very jealous at the idea of Albertââ¬â¢s having any political power, or meddling with affairs here ââ¬â which I know from himself he will not doâ⬠(Arnstein 67). Albert may not have moved to England to meddle, but he was increasingly absorbed by the affairs of his adopted country, and his intention was to enhance the role of his new wife, the queen. As he was to explain to the Duke of Wellington a decade later, his purposes were ââ¬Å"to sink his own individual existence in that of his wife ââ¬â to aim at no power by himself or for himself ââ¬â to shun all ostentati on ââ¬â to assume no separate responsibility before the public ââ¬â to make his position entirely a part of hers ââ¬â to fill up every gap which, as a woman, she would naturally leave in the exercise of her regal functions ââ¬â continually and anxiously to watch every part of the public business, in order to be able to advise and assist her at any moment in any of the multifarious and difficult questions brought before her, political, or social, or personal. To place all his time and powers at her command as the natural head of the family, superintendent of her household, manager of her private affairs in her communications with the officers of the Government, her private secretary, and permanent Ministerâ⬠(Arnstein 67). Albert preferred to see himself always as a servant, but he was obviously an intensely ambitious servant; one whose hope it was to strengthen the influence of the British monarchy not only as a symbol of morality and domesticity, but also as an active player in day-to-day government. In the course of the 1840ââ¬â¢s, with Queen Victoria more often pregnant than reigning, Albert did indeed come to play an increasingly important political role. He examined the papers in the dispatch boxes, and to a deepening degree, he added comments to the dispatches themselves. He participated in almost every personal meeting that Queen Victoria held with either her prime ministers or with a member of the Cabinet. He accompanied Victoria to Parliament when she formally opened and closed each annual session, and when she read her ââ¬ËSpeech from the Throne,ââ¬â¢ he sat on a throne of his own next to hers. Occasionally he presided at royal receptions in her palace. In every royal home (Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, and later Osborne and Balmoral), Albert and Victoria worked at adjoining desks for many hours each day. Their relationship became as much a political as a domestic partnership. It was Albert who wrote the lengt hy memoranda and who in a broadening role, came to draft her letters to her ministers. In fact, if not in name, their partnership became a dual monarchy. By 1845 a close observer of palace procedure took note of the fact that Albert and Victoria always met ministers together and began each sentence with ââ¬ËWe. He went on to say: ââ¬Å"The Prince is become so identified with the Queen that they are one person, and as he likes business, it is obvious that while she has the title he is really discharging the functions of the Sovereign. He is King to all intents and purposesâ⬠(Arnstein 68). To place Queen Victoriaââ¬â¢s reign in its appropriate context, both the era preceding and the era following her reign shall be discussed. The Georgian Era was followed by Queen Victoriaââ¬â¢s Era. After her reign concluded, the Edwardian Era was ushered in. The Georgian Era was a period of British history that included the reigns of George I, George II, George III, and George IV. Es sentially, the king called the shots for everything that happened during this period. Social reform under campaigners, politicians, and members of the Clapham Sect brought about changes in social justice and prison reform. There was a revival of Christianity and non-conformists. Hospitals, Sunday schools, and orphanages were also founded during this era. The loss of the American Colonies and the American Revolution occurred during the Georgian Era and were looked upon as national disasters. ââ¬Å"The expansion of the empire brought fame and sowed the seeds of the worldwide British Empire of the Victorian and Edwardian Eras which were to followâ⬠(Chesney 27). The Victorian Era of the United Kingdom encompassed the period of Queen Victoriaââ¬â¢s reign from 1837-1901. It was a long period of prosperity for the British people, including a largely developed middle class. Industrial improvements at home and large profits from oversea trading became major factors to the Uni ted Kingdomââ¬â¢s success. The Victorian Era is often characterized as the Pax Britannica, a long era of peace. The House of Commons was run by two major political parties, the Whigs and the Tories; later known as the Liberals and the Conservatives. Gothic revival architecture became increasingly significant during the Victorian Era. As mentioned earlier, Queen Victoria was part of the government, but the Prime Ministers were the ones who ran the country. During the 19th century, Britain went through a rapid population growth almost doubling its size. Wages were kept down and housing was expensive and scarce. In London, large houses were turned into tenements and flats, which later developed into the slums of London. ââ¬Å"Hideous slums, some of them acres wide, some no more than crannies of obscure misery, make up a substantial part of the, metropolis In big, once handsome houses, thirty or more people of all ages may inhabit a single roomâ⬠(Chesney 54). The Victorian Era was notorious for the employment of young children. Children ages 5 to 15 worked in factories and mines, and they often worked as chimney sweeps. Child labor was mostly brought on by economic hardships; children had to work because their families were put into debtorââ¬â¢s prisons. Queen Victoriaââ¬â¢s influence on society was not so great. From a certain standpoint, one could say that Victoria shunned society, leaving everything up to her prime ministers. The Edwardian Era in the United Kingdom was the period of King Edward VIIââ¬â¢s reign from 1901-1910. Socially, the Edwardian Era was a period where the British class system was very rigid. There were economic and social changes that created more mobility than what was previously shown during the Victorian Era. Changes in socialism, womenââ¬â¢s suffrage, and opportunities caused by industrialization were most prevalent during the Edwardian Era. Upper classes developed leisure sports, which led to fashion outbrea ks such as the corset. In conclusion, while Victoria was Queen there was a tremendous change in the lives of British people. Britain became the most powerful country in the world, with the largest empire that had ever existed, ruling a quarter of the worlds population. The number of people living in Britain more than doubled, causing a huge demand for food, clothes and housing. Factories and machines were built to meet this demand and new towns grew up, changing the landscape and the ways people lived and worked. Railways, originally built to transport goods, meant people could travel easily around the country for the first time. It is probably impossible to overestimate Victoriaââ¬â¢s importance to the history of the 1800s. The age itself has become known as the Victorian era, both for the supremacy of the British Empire during her reign, and because of her personal reputation. Bibliography â⬠¢ Arnstein, Walter L.
